Detroit News, March 23, 1931. The Godless Girl was a 1929 silent film by Cecil B. De Mille, about a rebellious girl atheist standing up to corrupt authority in a youth reformatory. (She prevails but ultimately comes to Jesus.) It did boffo box office in Germany and the Soviet Union, but tanked hard in the U.S. even after the studio gave it what was known as the “goat gland” treatment (interpolation of talkie scenes). But Sally (aka Dorcas) here seems to have been a fan. There’s another photo and an old movie poster after the jump.
Gotta like the attitude.
