Detroit News, April 25, 1931. State cops and county coroner’s office can’t reach an agreement on the enigmatic death of Hap Bellinger.

Hard to know what to think here. Detective Black would have it that the Bellinger family, wishing to shield Hap from the posthumous stigma of suicide, unwittingly created the overwhelming impression that a murder had been committed. One can see why the coroner called “No way,” but it’s hard to think of an alternate explanation that fits the facts.
