Detroit News, April 24, 1931. Further to the mysterious death of hapless Hap Bellinger, deceased sweetheart of the photogenic Miss Evelyn Lewis.
Pretty much nothing makes sense here, obviously. The father, a violent drunk, looks like the obvious suspect, but the girlfriend maintains against her own interest that she was alone with Hap when he died. The cover-up seems to have been a multilateral effort. One wonders: Which of the surviving principals took the razor to Hap’s head while the others were putting down the new linoleum? One thing’s for sure: booze and the logic of booze are all over this scenario. Tune in tomorrow for the resolution of the case. Meanwhile, here’s photographic confirmation that the Bellinger home was indeed a crumbling dump.
